Cecilia Moore collection of African-American Catholic materials
Scope and Contents
Dr. Moore's documents were kept very closely to their original order, with some materials grouped by religious order for the aid of future researchers. There are a wide variety of materials witin the collection. There are many official communications by African American Catholic institutions, split up into folders by religious orders, newsletters and bullitens, and event programs. There are also a number of devotional materials, broadly consisting of prayer cards and memorials for saints and figures within African American Catholicism, with specific folders for Sister Thea Bowman, Augustus Tolton and Pierre Toussaint, and Henriette Delille. Finally, there are a number of personal materials including invitations to African American Catholic events and death notices and obituaries for several prominant figures within African American Catholicim. The collection is arranged into fourteen folders.

Dr. Cecilia Moore is an Associate Professor in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Dayton. Her speciality is in U.S. Catholicism, particuarly in its intersection with African American culture and identity. This collection documents her extensive history with communities of African American Catholics.
