Scope and Contents

This collection contains the promotional material, financial papers, media recognitions, meeting minutes, grants and contracts, photographs, along with audio recordings of ArtsLive performances on the campus of the University of Dayton from 1997 to 2018.

Series 1 contains all of the paper records of the artist's performances. Placed in chronological order, every folder is all the information to every group, including all of UD's advertising for the performance, local newspaper articles promoting the group, online reviews of groups, along with all financial records detailing their bookings and lodging.

Series 2 contains audio recordings for the majority of the groups included in Series 1. The vast majority of the recordings are from the UD ArtsLive performance, but there are also digital photo collections of ArtsLive performances as well as published albums not associated with the University of Dayton.

Series 3 contains all available meeting minutes detailing the logistics of booknig the talent as well as lodging and affording the expenses of having these artists on campus.

Series 4 contains yearly general files on these performances. They mainly consist of miscellaneous materials on events that were put on by the ArtsLive committee during that school year.

Series 5 contains all of the available grants and contracts of performers. These deal with finding available funds, applying for funding, as well as all of the contractional information of having these performers on campus.

Series 6 contains all of the orignial and copied photographs of the ArtsLive Collection.

Series 7 contains all of the publications and brochures of the performances before the University of Dayton decided to change the name of Art Series to ArtsLive in the early 2000s.

Series 8 contains all of the promnotional materials created to advertise the performances on campus.

Biographical / Historical

ArtsLive, originally called Arts Series, was created in 1961 at the University of Dayton. Hundreds of esteemed artists from around the world and belonging to dozens of different disciplines, includng Ella Fitzgerald, have taken the stage at UD to great acclaim. Supported by the College of Arts and Sciences, each event or performance helps to enable students to better understand the joys and challenges of being human. These performances, mainly musical but also incorparte dance, have the goal of sharing cultural experiences from around the world. With around 10 performances a year, the ArtsLive Series is an essential aspect to the university's goal of expanding students' horizons and givng them a better appreciation of the world's varied artistic practices.
