Scope and Contents

This collection contains the works and faculty papers of Dr. Enrique Romaguera. Series I details the theatre productions Dr. Romaguera directed during his time at the Unicersity of Dayton as well as a collection of scripts authored by him. Series II are the academic works collected throughout his career, most notably when he was in graduate studies. Series III is about the creation of the Language Learning Center, a coalition Dr. Romaguera was the head of. The Language Learning Center was a propostition presented in the 1990s with the intention of converting space in the Roesch Library on the University of Dayton's campus into an engaging learning space specified for education in the Languages Department. Series IV pertains to Project Interface. This was a national conference in 1971 with the intention of presenting ideas on college curriculum, the rigors of college life, as well alternative efforts to give students a quality higher education. Series V is Dr. Romaguera's application for the Graul Chair of Arts and Languages in 2003. He held that position until his retirement in 2008.

Biographical / Historical

Dr. Enrique Romaguera, born in Puerto Rico, started his path in higher education at the University of Dayton earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and Russian language in 1965. After earning his PhD in 20th Century French Theatre with a second field in Russian Literature at the University of Arizona in 1970, Romaguera was hired by the University of Dayton to be a faculty member in the College of Arts and Sciences that same year. He became a prominent staff member within his department, culminating in 2003 when he was hired to be the Graul Chair of Arts and Languages. Along with his extensive work as a faculty member, Dr. Romaguera was a prolific writer and director of theatre. In total, he directed 87 productions, all of them in a foreign language, primarily in French. Dr. Enrique Romaguera retired in 2008 and died in 2018 after a lifetime dedication to education, theatre, and proper academic stewardship.
