Biographical / Historical

John T. Arsenault was born January 23, 1904, in Saint Louis, Prince Edward Island, Canada. His seminary studies were in Worcester, Massachusetts, and Baltimore, Maryland. He was ordained on June 14, 1930 at Saint Andre parish in Biddeford, Maine, by Bishop John Gregory Murray. He served as a pastor in many different parishes throughout the state of Maine. He was named a monsignor (domestic prelate) in 1963. He retired from active priestly ministry in September 15, 1968. He died on August 26, 1974.

This collection is of rosaries that were donated to Father John T. Arsenault, priest for the Diocese of Portland, Maine.


The rosaries are arranged in the order original to Father John T. Arsenault's notes. The collection has some gaps when compared to the notebook, and other rosaries are in the collection without notes by Fr. Arsenault.

The materials in this collection were acquired by Marian Library staff from the John T. Arsenault estate.

Processing Information

This collection was processed under the supervision of Jean Frisk, completed in May 2016. It has been rehoused by Andrew J. Kosmowski in December 2016.
