Biographical / Historical

Saint Helen's Parish in Riverside, Ohio, was founded in 1953 when Fr. James Krusling was appointed pastor of the parish. The parish grew rapidly and in early 1964, the large amount of families with children prompted the parish to open a school for the education of the upwards of 500 Catholic students in the area. The first church for the parish was dedicated in 1959. The Church of the Ascension in Kettering, Ohio, was founded as a parish in 1956 after a call from then-Archbishop Alter of CIncinnati for Father Arnold Witzman to move to Dayton to organize a new parish. The school building for the Church of the Ascension was completed in 1956, the rectory in 1960, the basement church in 1962, and the convent in 1966. The parish continued to grow since its inception in 1956, with a new church being completed in 1988 which is used to this day.
