This collection contains the research materials of Fr. Robert E. Hughes, S.M. The collection includes newsletters, correspondence, articles, and ephemera relating to alleged Marian apparitions, mystics, or visionaries. The collection primarily covers apparations in the United States and includes some materials that are international in scope. One series in the collection is related to Medjugorje and includes materials from the Medjugorje Center of San Jose where Fr. Hughes served as the Spiritual Director during the late 1980s.

Biography of Fr. Robert E. Hughes, S.M.
Fr. Robert E. Hughes, S.M., was born in 1932 and professed his first vows in 1949. In the late 1950s he spent several years in the Vatican working in preparation for Vatican II under the direction of Cardinal Montini. From 1962 through 1964 he served as professor of theology and chaplain at Chaminade University in Honolulu, Hawaii, and from 1964 through 1970 served as Newman Chaplain at the University of California, Santa Cruz. During the mid-1980s he was involved in the formation and/or operation of over ten Marian prayer groups on the West Coast. During the late 1980s, Fr. Hughes served as the spiritual director of the Medjugorje Center of San Jose. As of 2014, he resides in Cupertino, California.
