The collection particularly focuses on the present-day Latin American countries of Mexico, Guatemala, and Peru. There are several materials relating to topics such as the Council of Lima and the religious instruction of the indigenous peoples, including Christian doctrine translated into indigenous languages. Some of the prominent authors of these research materials include Juan de Zumárraga, the first bishop of Mexico, Francisco Marroquín, the first bishop of Guatemala, and Bartolomé Carranza de Miranda, archbishop of Toledo, Spain, among others.
